No. 298 Top Cutter
The No. 298 Top Cutter's unique design allows a faster, more accurate method of preparing a seam from the top face of the carpet. The two edges of the carpet are overlapped; the tool is inserted, then pushed forward through the length of the seam. The result is two edges perfectly mating to one another, without shearing of the nap. Uses special Crain No. 299Y Blades.
The design transfers the weight of the downward pressure (1) to the outriggers on either side of the blade (2). This bows the carpet and frees the pile to gently separate as the blade glides through it (3). Only the backing is cut. See diagram.
