The 30° blade angle cuts attached cushion carpets cleanly. The front guide is beveled to follow the carpet’s rows. The soft grip handle provides comfort and control. Return to this same starting point on the right side of the carpet and trim with the left blade down in the same direction. This procedure simulates the factory spacing of the carpet’s rows on most carpets. When necessary, to trim both edges as close as possible to the tufts, trim the right side of the seam with the right blade down, then on the left side retract the right blade and trim with the left blade down. Net weight: 8 oz. Blades: slotted razor (Crain No. 308C).

No. 300 Loop Pile Cutter

This inexpensive yet versatile cutter is great for rough cutting of carpet off the roll. It takes slotted razor blades, utility blades, or Crain No. 300Y blades. When used with utility or Crain No. 300Y blades, the blade angle cuts from the carpet’s backing to prevent shearing and wadding up of yarns. The thin steel row guide follows in the rows of carpet. The steel foot plate fastened on the base reduces wear and extends the life of the cutter. Two large thumb knobs allow simple, fast blade changes. Net weight: 8 oz.

No. 290 Seam Cutter Plus

This cutter excels on carpets with zigzag (“hydra-shift”) tufting including commercial loop pile and Berber carpets. The blade runs directly behind the center row guide. This keeps the blade away from the offset yarns at the hydra-shift “stopovers”. This prevents the yarns from being sheared, which can cause unsightly seams. The wide base keeps the blade perpendicular to the yarns, further preventing shearing. The tool can also be used as a trimmer for precisely trimming carpet up to Z-bar or vinyl molding. For Z-bar, retract the row guide and the seam cutting (slotted razor) blade, and install standard utility blades on the back side. The outer edges of the base provide variable guidance for trimming the right amount of carpet to tuck under the Z-bar, based on the thickness of the adjacent flooring. For vinyl molding, retract the row guide and slotted blade, remove a portion of the base, and install utility blades on the back side of the cutter. An interior slot positions the utility blades so they leave the right amount of carpet to tuck beneath the vinyl molding. Net weight: 1.2 lbs. Blades: Slotted razor (Crain No. 308C) and utility.
